Solstice at the Stones

Tuesday, August 7th, 2007

Over the Summer Solstice 2003, i was in Orkney so on the longest night i hoofed it out to the Ring of Brodgar, which is a stone age circle of standing stones between the two lochs in Stenness, and while there i took a few photos. The Cult of Bob

Well, the Cult of Bob is kind of a religion which forced its presence upon me. I used to moderate a couple of discussion board type forums and some of the members on one of them suddenly became vocal members of this unusual cult. The discordians seem to worship Eris, the Greek goddess of discord. This throws a spanner into the works however, since worshipping the goddess of discord basically means you can do what you like. It even means you don’t need to actually worship Eris! (as far as i can work out anyway) It seems to me that the main purpose of discordianism is to do weird things, and generally spread discord in an effort to get the world to be more interesting.
